Nocturnal Noize: Bios
J Tronic
Hailing from Grand Rapids, Michigan--midway between Detroit and Chicago-- J Tronic is a true electronic music aficianado. While his tastes are varied, encompassing ambient, down tempo, old school electro, and experimental, his greatest passion is for underground house and techno. A veteran behind the decks, J Tronic is a master at moving the crowd, and his DJ sets are known to weave flawlessly between soulful house cuts and raw, dark techno beats. Over the years, J Tronic has performed across the U.S.A., Canada, and Spain, and the combination of passion, talent, and experience he brings allow him to take the dance floor on an unforgettable journey every time he performs.
J Tronic's musical voyage began in school as a youth, where he took music classes and learned to play percussion. Soon, he was writing songs and performing in bands, and it wasn't long before he know that music would be a life-long pursuit. By 1997, he was DJing and buying records, and within a year he had started the production company "Nocturnal Noize" to represent the underground sound out of Portland, Oregon.
Eventually, after hosting some major west coast events, J Tronic felt the urge to return to his roots and be near the birth places of house and techno. From his hometown of Grand Rapids, he continued to develop his sound and promote events, and soon he was driven to transform Nocturnal Noize into a record label, with the goal of putting out the hottest, deepest, and funkiest underground tracks. In 2010, after a short hiatus, Nocturnal Noize returned, and with a slew of wicked releases in the works, J Tronic is ready to show the world what the true spirit of underground dance music is all about.
David Powers
Born in Zaragoza, Spain, Chicago’s David Powers is a veteran musician, producer, and DJ who has been performing music for over twenty years. Ever since he programmed his first drum machine at the age of 12, Powers has been obsessed by the musical possibilities of electronic music. His productions and DJ sets are rooted in the classic sounds of Chicago house and Detroit techno, yet he uses these sounds to express a unique vision, creating music that is deep, funky, and futuristic. His sound has been inspired by musicians as wide ranging as John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Thelonius Monk, Mozart, Mahler, John Cage, Prince, Marvin Gaye and Juan Atkins.
In 1999 and 2000, while living in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Powers began playing Detroit and Kalamazoo warehouse parties under the pseudonym Cyborg K. These underground events turned his love of techno music into an insatiable passion. During this time, he played all-hardware live PA's alongside techno legends such as Jay Denham, Dan Bell, and Oliver Ho. He also began honing his studio skills and mastering analog synthesizers.
He now resides in Chicago, and regularly performs at clubs and parties around the US. He has released music on Hej and Klectik, and has a forthcoming 12" release on NocturnalNoize.
